A Review of Geocasting Protocols for a Mobile Ad Hoc Network∗ †

چکیده
A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a network consisting of a set of mobile hosts capable of communicating with each other without the assistance of base stations. In this paper we review five existing protocols for geocasting in a MANET environment. The goal of a geocasting protocol is to deliver data packets to a group of nodes that are with a specified geographical area, i.e., the geocast region. In an ad hoc environment, there are numerous scenarios which would benefit from geocast communication (e.g., to broadcast emergency information within a mile radius of a fire or to broadcast a coupon for coffee within a block of a Starbucks). In this paper, we classify current geocast routing protocols into two categories: data-transmission oriented protocols and routingcreation oriented protocols. We present three protocols that forward data packets to a geocast region using different techniques: the Location-Based Multicast algorithm (LBM), Voronoi diagram based geocasting and a protocol called GeoGRID. We also present two protocols that create routes to send data packets to a geocast region: GeoTORA (a protocol which is the combination of the unicast protocol Temporally-Ordered Routing Algorithm and flooding in a geocast region) and a Mesh-based Geocast Routing Protocol. We present the details of these five geocast protocols in this paper.

Obstacle-Free Geocasting Protocols for Single/Multi-Destination Short Message Services in Ad Hoc Networks
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) comprise mobile hosts in a network bereft of base stations and characterized by a highly dynamic network topology. The MANET environment contains unpredictable obstacles, such as mountains, lakes, buildings, or regions without any hosts, impeding or blocking message relay. This study proposes geocasting protocols for sending short message from a source host to sin...
متن کاملA Survey of Solutions to Protect Against All Types of Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
In recent years mobile networks have expanded dramatically, compared with other wireless networks. Routing protocols in these networks are designed with the assumption that there is no attacker node, so routing protocols are vulnerable to various attacks in these networks. In this paper, we review the network layer attacks and then we simulate the impact of black hole attack on ad hoc on demand...
متن کاملGeocasting in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: Location-Based Multicast Algorithms
This paper addresses the problem of geocasting in mobile ad hoc network (MANET) environments. Geocasting is a variant of the conventional multicasting problem. For multicasting, conventional protocols define a multicast group as a collection of hosts which register to a multicast group address. However, for geocasting, the group consists of the set of all nodes within a specified geographical r...

متن کاملSecure Routing Protocol: Affection on MANETs Performance
In mobile ad hoc networks, the absence ofinfrastructure and the consequent absence of authorizationfacilities impede the usual practice of establishing a practicalcriterion to distinguishing nodes as trusted and distrusted.Since all nodes in the MANETs would be used as router inmulti-hop applications, secure routing protocols have vital rulein the security of the network. So evaluating the perf...
